I’m just a crazy mixed up kid.

And I have been since the age of nine or so. That was the time my life-nav was interfered with, leaving me in a state of confusion. Oddly enough, despite the lack of a proper route-map, my journeys have been eventful, fruitful and sometimes even enjoyable.

So now you see before you a man of many dimensions. Some of my customers and colleagues would go as far as saying a man of many talents:-

Author of seven books

Presenter & Speaker

Coach & Mentor

Networker and social media lover

Magician and Entertainer

Musician and composer

How does all this fit together? Surely you can’t expect to take a business presenter seriously when you discover he is a lowly children’s entertainer!

I used to think that myself. Whilst I enjoyed the eclectic mix of my work, I tried very hard to keep the different strands apart – not wishing my business clients to really know what I got up to at the weekend.

More recently I’ve realised that was a the wrong message and that I was missing a trick.

Making my entertainment activities “invisible” was merely an illusion – a weak illusion at that. I have been very successful with magic and was always going to be “unmasked”. It was just a matter of time.

What’s more I know my success in this field makes a positive statement about my “business” work – for three key reasons.

It demonstrates the success of the approaches to business communications I advocate

Even a children’s entertainer has to act professionally and work to standards and regulations – it is not (anymore) an industry for amateurs

Ultimately entertaining and marketing (for want of a better catch-all word) are the same job. Engage, enthuse, move-to-action and transform!

Some years ago I realised that perhaps my life-nav wasn’t broken at all – I just didn’t quite get how it works. Thus I was able to continue on my eclectic journey and enjoy it all the more.

One principle stays close to my heart when considering all the aspects of my life and work. It is a philosophy I wish more people could adopt – although I understand why it is tricky for some to work with.

If asked which of my jobs I prefer, I always answer “The one I am doing now!”

Why? Because I live in the belief that every activity I undertake, be it a presentation, a trick or even just the twisting of a balloon dog deserves my fullest attention and all my passion.

Anything less would be really crazy!
